term 4 review

Term 4 has been a amazing  term, very busy but very amazing. We have done lots of things this term such as visiting our future intermediate school. We also learnt a brand new game called ki o rahi. This game takes a lot of skill and  strategy. You need to be fast but smart.
You also need to have a good throw.

As busy as this term has been we also had road patrol reward day. That is when we go to the olympic pools to get our reward for all our hard work we did at road patrols. the people who organised it gave a award out to the best road patrol school. unfortunately it was not wainui.

Our inquiry topic this term was culture city. We learnt  about a lot of countries such as Mexico this was my favorite country, because we got to learn about the day of the dead. Over all this topic was not my favorite. Not because it was hard. I just didn't enjoy as much other subjects. I guess it didn't grab my attention. Anyway it has been a really fun term but I am looking forward to moving on to intermediate.

Kapa Haka

Kiamo!! Hunter yelled in a deep loud voice. Butterflies were darting around in my stomach. This is the moment we,ve been practicing for two whole terms. Hunter starts the takahia. It is wednesday the 20th. and the whole of nui syndact is up on stage at the turanganui kapa haka festival. the festival was at the show ground. we have been practicing for the festival because  maori is very big part of our culture.

I can feel the crowds  eyes burn into the side of my cheek.
I felt as If I was a Maori warrior. before I could blink the Haka was over an I was back to normal. This was easily the best haka. I really enjoyed the Haka. Because it was loud and proud. It was time for the second Haka I feel it went to fast.

Koka Sue strummed her guitar. That was Hunters cue to start the song.  As the song starts the girls walk up beside us rows of people. the crowd was cheering. It was a very proud moment.

Mare

On thursday we went to Te Poho o Rawiri marae. When we first arrived we sat in our kapa haka  lines. we sang songs until we were welcomed on the mare. After that we walked into this Huge hall thing which is called a wharenui. It was filled with big patterns and cool designs called tukutuku panels and kowhaiwhai. We sang some more songs and talked in maori (I had no idea what they were saying).

When the powhiri was over we had some free time on the courts. Soon it was Time for lunch. After lunch we had rotations in groups were we would learn traditional maori games.
we also went on a walk up Kaiti hill that was really fun. especially coming down we would slide on the bottom of our shoes and go really fast. there were other things like flax weaving, skipping and hand ball.

Next we had dinner. For dinner we had vegetarian nachos. They were pretty good but It would have been better if it had mince. For dessert we had ice blocks and apples. When dinner was all done we had to set for the big performance. we did the haka which is my favorite. I was also asked to do my comedy I don't think It was as good as my assembly
performance.

EL3 Math

You know how we've been doing alot of leaning on angles. Well  today we had a review  of all the learning. With a quick quiz, the quiz  was a google form. It was pretty easy. but I wish she gave  us the heads up because. I would have looked in my book for some answers. But in the end It was  a fun quiz. when I think about geometry my brain is busing of key words like degrees, acute, parallel and 3d. I  really look forward to learning a new subject that links well into geomtry.

the solstice

E3L KT

Today in EL3 KT we went out side because it was a beautiful day. You may be wondering what does this have to do with math? We used rakau to play a game that involved angles. You throw the rakau at your partner at an angle between 90 degrees and 20 degrees. I enjoyed this learning because
we learnt a lot and we got to go outside. I would really recommend this game, because it's a good way to learning.

Rakau is a traditional maori weapon that was used as a spear or a club. They are still used today for traditional games. I find rakau  very fascinating, especially the ones with cool patterns and feathers on them.

Cross Country

Today was cross country. It was super fun, I Was really puffed at the end of the race. As a year six we all had to run 2.5 km. My year group is the hardest in the district. I came 6th out of 27.

To get there we had to walk. It is quite a long walk to get there it took us about in hour to get there. So that gave us a big disadvantage. Especially because year six has to go first.

I am also house captain so that means I have to encourage my house and get them excited before there race. I really enjoy doing this because we get to do chant offs with the other houses and my house is really getting good at the chant.

When we were all finished I helped pack up. It was really hard getting every single persons lunch box in the car. When we were all done packing up, we started the long walk back to school.

Math strand

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, in MLH we have to math groups that everyone goes to.
Today in my math strand. I was learning how to measure triangles. Most of the group used protractors. but I used adition to work out the missing angles. the first Time I tried I got the answer wrong and then the teacher helped me and I got all of the other questions right. the people who used the protractors didn't get exactly right, and most of the time you won't get the exact answer if you use protractors. But you will get the exact answer if you calculate it. I found this learning very interesting.

level 3 math!

Today We did some more work on decimals.  I was really glad we did some work on decimals because, I am not the best in this math category. But I was proud of myself when Koka Ngaire gave us some word problems I really pushed my limits and solved the math equations. my buddy Charlie helped me alot when I got stuck. We had a lot of great discussions in that sesion. We also had a turn on a game that I would really recommend it's called decimasters it's fun and you learn a lot.  I am looking forward to learning more about decimals in future.

Term 3 week 1

This is our groups vocab that the teacher set up.
you will find therese words when you learn about geometry.
We have made a great learning start to term 3.
My group has been learning about geometry. For those  of you that don't what geometry is it is a math category were you learn about measurement ,shapes and angles and all of those kind of things. these are useful to know when you get older if you want to be a builder, architect or  a baker. I found this learning rather interesting, because I was  not a expert in this category.  I look forward to learning more about
 this subject in future.

Retro ech

This term we have been working on retro tech. And this is a diagram of an old fashioned drill. I think that it is a super cool item. because it is all manual. My favorite part is how the cogs move. I find it really satisfying how the world has evolved. I did this as one of my priorities.
